Default I believe I have Prolapsed Uterus - is hysterectomy likely the treatment?

Well I am off to the hospital tomorrow morning. I am pretty sure I have a prolapsed uterus.

I am just a little worried - I guess fear of the unknown.

I have had 4 children (all vaginal births), do not plan on any more and am 35 years old what do you think the odds are they will say I need a hysterectomy?

Whats the recovery time for this? Geez i have 4 kids I can't imagine being out of commission long.

Thanks everyone in advance for your advice.
Jade

I am not a doctor but, one of the main reasons doctors decide to perform a hysterectomy besides caner and Uterine fibroids of the uterus is in fact due to a prolapsed uterus. This may help you also due to the fact that you do not want to have any more children being that it removes a woman's uterus (womb).

Recovering from a hysterectomy takes time. You will stay in the hospital from one to two days for post surgery care. Some women may stay in the hospital up to four days.

* Abdominal. Complete recovery usually takes four to eight weeks. You will gradually be able to increase your activities.
* Vaginal or laparoscopic. Most women are able to return to normal activity in one to two weeks.

For both, by the sixth week, you should be able to take tub baths and resume sexual activities.

Default PROLAPSED UTERUS - Hysterectomy???

I have a 22 month old daughter and a 9 month old son, therefore I had them pretty close together (13 months apart). Since my son was 3 months old I have been having irregular periods and a lot of pelvic floor pain (almost nerve-damage like pain). My son got stuck during delivery so I had to alter my position a few times. Everything was fine afterwards, so it seemed, and I was released from the hospital 16 hours after being admitted. About a month after his birth I started to vigorously work-out to lose the extra weight I had gained from the pregnancy. I had to stop for a while because we were moving and that is when I noticed the "nerve" pain in my labia area. I also started to get 2-5 days of extra bleeding every month before I would start my period. I began to notice that my uterus was prolapsing and two doctors confirmed this to be true. I have had a lot of hair loss during these past 4 months, I have had terrible head aches, pelvic pain, and cramping. On top of all that, irregular bleeding. My doctor just put me on birth control to see if that would help with some of the pain and irregular bleeding but so far it hasn't worked. I have gone through 1 complete pack now and I still had 8 days of pink/red mucousy discharge before my 10 day period. I am feeling tired and sluggish and I am beginning to fear that I am becoming anemic because of this (if that's possible). My mom just had to have a hysterectomy because of prolapsed uterus but my doctor says that I am too young to think about having that done. I just turned 30 so I AM relatively young. My doc says that the next option would be a pessary to lift my uterus back in place but this pessary would have to be taken out to be cleaned and if I ever wanted to have intercourse. WHAT A PAIN THAT WOULD BE! I just want a solution that I don't have to worry about maintaining. Part of me thinks that there is more wrong with me than just a prolapsed uterus. I have constipation and some pain during intercourse (INSIDE). Is a hysterectomy the best solution for me? We are certain that we don't want anymore kids so that wouldn't be a problem for me. What is the answer?

Default Re: I believe I have Prolapsed Uterus - is hysterectomy likely the treatment?

I am having the same problems. I am 31 years old with two kids at this point. My partner and I have been together for 11 years and always had a great sex life until 4 years ago when intercourse started to become really painful. Since then, my sex life is non existent and when I do relent and do it, its total pain - no enjoyment at all. I went to a gyno and she told me my Uterus had dropped and there was nothing that could be done for me at my age. The pain is constant and I am desperate to find some answers on what I can do. A hysterectomy is not an option at this point in my life. I need some help so I can feel like a normal woman again. I am overweight, but not hugely obese. If I lose weight, will that help do you think??
