Default Has anyone heard of being too obese to have a hysterectomy?

I have been bleeding for 2+ months now. I have had a D & C which did not help matters any..if anything I am bleeding more. Progesterone has not stopped the bleeding and now they want to try Depo Provera. I am already overweight and my gynecologist said that I am too obese to get a hysterectomy. That in order to stop bleeding I have to undergo hormone treatment which will just make me gain even more weight. Not to mention put me at a higher risk for blood clots etc. I am 5 foot 292 lbs...I am now very anemic with my blood count at 9.5. It just keeps getting lower and I have no idea where to turn or what to do. I also have fibroids and an enlarged uterus. I know being overweight puts an extra risk on surgery but would like to know how to go about finding a physician that would consider doing a hysterecomy. I bleed so heavy that I have to wear depends daily...Anyone with any suggestions is very much appreciated.
Hi For David S who has a gynecologist friend. I have had two C section deliveries for both of my children. I was overweight with each of them. I hate to disagree with you but yes fat does heal....and the hysterectomy would be the more riskier surgery..this I understand because in its non pregnant state is much smaller and more difficult to find and remove in a larger obese person when compared to a 9 month pregnant sized uterus is basically right there staring you in the face.
I fully understand the reasons..I know it would be difficult but I am willing if I could find a doctor that could help me. Right now the ablation is not an option for me because of the fibroid tumors and the adeomyosis. I just want to get back to my life and never thought in a million years this would happen in this day and age. Is there a site I can go to to find high risk surgeons or gynecologists that take on higher risk patients?
I have basically been told by my current gyn that Depo Provera injections are my only hope.
I know that being overweight is a problem but it does not take away from the fact that I am a human being that should have the same rights/options as other women within reason. I should not have to be forced to take a medication that I do not want...and should be referred to someone that can help me.
I was told ablation in my case will not work because of adenomyosis and fibroid tumors. If I was a woman of normal size...I am sure the hysterectomy would have been done a month ago.
I am very frustrated but I will not go on that injection. I am pretty determined after the research that I have read about it. Thanks everyone for your opinions/answers. I am sure this has happened to others..and if so..let me know your experiences. Thanks
Sherri
