Gas will acumulate in the intestine with immobility...Best treatment, get up and WALK, WALK,...WALK!!! It's actually a good sign though, it means her intestines weren't traumatized by the abdominal surgery, or the anesthesia, and passing gas is a good sign! BUT, trapped gas is very painful!! We always got our post-op patients up and walking A.S.A.P.!!
Also, pain meds, especially PERCOCET, will further slow down the intestinal motility, and increase the gas,...so, if the pain is tolerable,...let up on the pain meds, unless it is too painful to walk without them.If this is the case, take a pain med, BUT, promise yourself as a reward for less pain. that you will walk to the kitchen and back!! IT WORKS!!!
