Ok, here is my dilemma, I am now dead set on being done with having kids after my current baby is born in April. This will make 3 for us.
At first I was going back and forth and told my husband "what good will I be when I can't even have kids anymore? Thats what sets women apart from men."
His comment back was "having kids doesn't make you a mom or a good mom for that matter. Now it's time to raise your kids and be a good mom. Anyone can have kids, but it take a great mom to raise her kids right..."
After this sunk in, I knew he was right & now I am ready for the whole tube tying deal.
In my family, Hysterectomies are kinda something that most have gone through, I've heard that it's hereditary and I am figuring, it I am going to need a Hysterectomy in 5-10 yrs anyway, why not just do it now and get it over with after my baby is born?
I have learned that getting my tubes tied will have me still having a period and from what I've heard, it's WORSE and heavier than before! UGH!

Honestly, this is something you should be asking your doctor, and not us.

But if you want an opinion... I would need to know more.

Why did the rest of your family get Hysterectomies? Was it because of a risk of cancer?

If cancer is prevalent in your family, I would go ahead and do it just for safety's sake.

But you need to know that while you will no longer be having your period, the side effects are not a walk in the park.

Hot flashes, weight gain, emotional issues are all side effects of the loss of your womanly hormones. An the hormone pills have some nasty side effects as well. Which is why I say talk to your doctor.

I will say that the etymology of the term "Hysterectomy" always makes me smile a little. "Removing the Hysteria"

Hysterectomy, would be done if the doctor feels you need one, Just guessing that in 5-10 years you may need on isn't saying that you really do, I would talk to your doctor instead of speculating.
