is a condition characterized by the presence of endometrial tissue outside the endometrial cavity, occurs in 5-10 % of premenapausal woment. Can be found everywhere in the body, including the the vigina, lungs, cervix, central nervous system, and the GI system. Most commonly in the pelvis. Has an unknown cause...but is thought to be related to irregular menstrrual cycles. Symptoms - pelvic pain, dull or cramping, painful menstration, painful intercourse and bleeding after intercource is common. Diagnosed by laparoscopy. Can be treated by meds and sometime it is nec...to have surgery.
