Default Does cervical cancer run in families?

Today my dad told me that my mom has stage 0 cervical cancer and that it is getting worse...I'm really scared that it will get serious. Does cervical cancer spread fast? And I've never been vaccinated for HPV...does it tend to run in families?

Yes it can run through the family esp if your mom had hpv when you were born. I would go to the doctor and get tested for HPV. If you don't have it then hopefully you can get the shot if your are not older then 24 or 26( i can't remember exactly). But if you do have it , then you go for check ups every 3-4 months to see if it has progressed or not. I know this cause I have HPV and it is second stage, once it gets to the thrid stage I am going to opt to have everyhting taken out. I would rather be safe then sorry, and I hope that you go to your gyno asp to get tested.

Cancer does seem to run in families but that doesn't necessarily mean you will get cervical cancer. Make sure you have regular pap smears, cos i have had cervical cancer and i would never have known if my doctor hadn't reminded me that i was well overdue for a pap smear! I class myself as being extremely lucky to have been diagnosed when i was cos after having an operation i have now had the "all clear" for 16mths and feel fine. Pap smears are the only way of diagnosing cervical cancer!

Cancer is hereditary, however that does not mean that you will get it what you need to do is take all the precautions measure you can. Like getting regular pap smears
