Is it possible to have 3 ovaries?
Hi everyone, my name is Blair. I'm posting on behalf of my wife Jo* who had a hysterectomy at 26, and her ovaries removed at 32. Her current age is 38. On Tuesday evening Jo went into hospital with suspected appendicitis and subsequently underwent surgery for this. During surgery it was discovered that Jo had a polycystic ovary. The cyst was drained during the surgery, however they were unable to remove the ovary as there were no gyno doctors available at the time.
Our questions are obviously many, mainly has anyone ever heard of a case such as this before? Jo has had numerous scans etc.. over the last 6 years, and we were told at one point that she had a legion or small part of ovary remaining and that nothing more could be done to manage her ongoing pain.
Jo has also been on hormone replacement therapy and I think we have finally figured out why they were never able to get the doses correct.
Possibilities appear to be that it has grown back from not being completely removed, it was never removed at all -we doubt this as her gyno doctor is very highly regarded, or that there were maybe 3 to begin with?
We aren't angry with our hospital or providers, more intrigued than anything else, as are all the medical staff we have come across over the last couple of days.
Thank you for taking the time to read this post, your thoughts and comments are most welcome. We will keep this updated as we know more ourselves. It is still early and we are awaiting the reports etc... to come through.
Regards Blair & Jo
