Default Osteoporosis Question?

I wanted to know if anyone else out there has been diagnosed with Osteoporosis and it's getting worse for them? I had my second Dexa scan and my scores have dropped in my left hip and right hip to a -4.5, but it seems to be -1.7 in my lower back and my neck was -0.05. With a score like that in the hip area, how much of a risk am I for fracture? I am waiting to see my Ortho Spec. next week...thank you for your help..

I was -2.2 in hips and femurs and they say I have a increased risk for fracture. This is at age 55 after growing up a track star and marathon runner and active in jogging, basketball, baseball and racket sports for 25 years after college. But I have been on prednisone starting in 1998 which caused the osteoporosis. Don't know how easy it would be have a fracture, either. Like you would be nice to know in more every day terms.

I have also been diagnosed with Osteoporosis and in researching the drugs Fosomax and Actonel, I came across a fracture risk calculator. If you have all your scores and complete the sections required ... it gives you the probability of fracture within the next 5 years.I wish you luck with your situation ... I think I will wait until my next scan (in two years) before taking any of the medications mentioned above. For now I will take Calcium and Vitamin D daily. Although I've heard that many women who take in too much calcium may be at higher risk for breast cancer! "Damned if you do and damned if you don't" seems to be the best motto for EVERYTHING in this day and age!Goodness gracious, what in the world did our ancestors do about all these problems? ; {}
